It Is Tougher To Locate Work – So Start One
As companies are downsizing, and the public is slowing down their spending, it is getting harder to locate work. Although it can be a nerve-racking time, if you stop and look around you can uncover a method of creating your own company.
When I first began my construction company, I contracted myself out as an installer for a water fountain company. It was a especially good contract job, as they paid at the end of the job, and as a new business this was very important for me.
As I gained a better income with housing, I gave this contract to a really good friend of mine. For four years he was making an excellent income, but when the economy started to get shaky, he saw his installations slowly fall off.
He began looking for more jobs and was having a hard time locating work. The housing industry in his area took a big hit, and there was lots of competition. He called me and we began to brainstorm different thoughts.
He wasn’t very keen on going to work for someone else, seeing that the independence he had had as a self-employed installer was difficult to surrender. But, at the same time he needed to work.
We started to look at all of his choices, and then I recommended he establish his own company. His first response was no, as he knows that I also have an Internet Marketing company, and he was not interested in that.
He’s a very physical person and I know this. My thought was not for him to turn to the Internet the way I did, but in a different way.
One of the products that I utilize and now endorse is for building your own solar and wind power systems. My idea was for him to build the systems, then sell them.
He decided to give it a try, and began to build wind powered generators. After getting his garage set up, and making some templates, he now has a system where he is building four turbines a day.
He advertised locally only, at farmer’s markets and a local week end flea market, and has a back log of orders. He hopes he will be caught up by August.
His sales strategy allows for both self installation, or he will do it for a fee. Right now nearly all of his clientele are requesting for him to do it, which has caused him to be very busy (He is considering contracting the installations out, so he can concentrate on building the turbines.), and make a really nice income.
He has plans of starting a solar panel division too. He made one for his holiday trailer, and following his first camping trip, lots of people showed interest in purchasing one from him. But he feels it will be winter before he will have the time to manufacture them.
This is one example of how a person can make money, even in a bad economy. With some brainstorming, and sharing of ideas, a business was formed that is generating a good income for a ex- installer. If you think outside of the box, and use the information around you, you can rise above the economy.
