Why You Need To Be On Twitter Now…

By now I’m sure you’ve heard that Twitter is exploading.  Per Twitter, “We’re expecting to hit 50 Million users by the end of ’09″.

That’s a pretty big number.

So why should you care?

Well for one, that’s a ton of people you can interact with.  Two, with email deliverability rates going down, Twitter’s will have the same now and in the future, 100%.  Even though your not techincally emailing anyone, when you have followers and you make a post, it shows up in real time on every one of your followers accounts.

Can you see why so many marketer’s are flocking to Twitter?  Your message being seen by everyone of your followers is a powerful tool in any marketer’s arsenal.

There are some rules you need to follow though if you want to be respected and gather a big following.  Below is a breakdown of how you should post on Twitter:

30% of the time you should make a post that helps people better their lives.
10% of the time you should keep people informed of what is going on in your particular niche
30% of the time you should try and make people laugh.  Tell a joke or send them a link to a funny video etc..
25% of the time you should compliment and praise of people on their post’s
5% of the time you should tell people what you do, i.e., tell them about a product or service that they may be interested in

These percentages are a rough estimate and are just a guideline I learned from Perry Belcher over the Weekend at Ross Goldburgs Master’s Seminar in Tampa.  He’s a cool guy and knows his stuff.

If you need idea’s to come up with on what to Tweet about you can check out Alltop.com, Popurls.com and Digg.com.

Think of yourself as a reporter for your niche.

One last thing, use open ended questions on occasion.  When you get a response, respond back!

Remember, your building a following or a community with communication being the key.  You wouldn’t go up to someone in person and ask them how their day was and then turn around and walk away without letting them answer would you?  ofcourse not and the same goes here.
